University of Auckland: Clock Tower and Old Choral Hall

While exploring Heritage Images online I decided to search images of the University of Auckland out of interest as I’ve studying there for the past five years. The images are very interesting and give a gauge as to how the university has changed over the years.

The Clock Tower hasn’t changed too much but I was surprised to see how Old Choral Hall had changed drastically since the early 20th century. It started out resembling the Auckland War Memorial Museum, a classical Roman design, but these days the columns are gone and the building has increased in size.

This was the final guest post by Ashley, a student who has spent her winter placement with us here at Auckland Libraries. We have really appreciated her contributions to Heritage et AL. Thanks Ashley!

  1. With the 2025 discovery of a water well we now know that Albert Barracks did have a water supply.
